Elliott secures GOP nod in DuPage County Board race

Tim Elliott easily became the Republican nominee Tuesday for a District 4 seat on the DuPage County Board.

With all 160 precincts reporting, Elliott finished with 11,925 votes, unofficial results show. His opponent, Michelle Moore, had 10,119.

Elliott and Moore, both attorneys, had clashed over the board's relationship with Sheriff John Zaruba and the future of the county fairgrounds during a hard-fought campaign.

Elliott, a Glen Ellyn village trustee since April 2013 and a College of DuPage attorney, highlighted his public experience in a campaign against Moore, a political newcomer who works as a municipal prosecutor.

"We felt we really talked to voters about the issues that were important to them," Elliott said late Tuesday.

Moore had the backing of board Chairman Dan Cronin and the seat's incumbent, Republican Karyn Romano, who is stepping down when her appointed term ends in November.

Cronin said Moore "did pretty darn well" as a "first-time candidate," but called the 44-year-old Elliott "smart and capable and accomplished."

"Primaries are not a lot of fun. It's kind of an intrafamily squabble," Cronin said. "It's a fight. It's a contest to see who can carry the banner, and so he won, and it was an impressive victory, and I look forward to supporting him and working with him in the future."

Elliott will advance to the November general election and square off against Khizar Jafri, a Wheaton Democrat. If elected, Elliott says he will step down from both the Glen Ellyn village board and as COD's attorney.

The winner in November will earn a four-year term representing District 4, which covers all or parts of Addison, Bloomingdale, Carol Stream, Glen Ellyn, Glendale Heights, Lisle, Lombard, Wheaton and Winfield.
