UN Population Fund names Ashley Judd ambassador

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - The United Nations Population Fund has named actress Ashley Judd as its Goodwill Ambassador.

The fund's executive director Dr. Babatunde Osotimehin made the announcement Friday at a news conference. The fund addresses reproductive health and population issues.

"Ashley and UNFPA will be joining forces to raise awareness of the huge work that still needs to be done across the world to stop women dying (while) giving life and to empower women to choose when and how often to become pregnant," Osotimehin said.

Judd is known for her roles in such movies as "Kiss the Girls," ''Double Jeopardy" and "Heat."
