Karanka resumes Middlesbrough job after removed from duty

MIDDLESBROUGH, England (AP) - Aitor Karanka is back in charge of second-tier English club Middlesbrough after being removed from first-team duties ahead of Saturday's loss at Charlton.

The Portuguese coach, who is in his first managerial job abroad after being assistant to Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, was reported to have left Middlesbrough's training ground unexpectedly on Friday following a row.

The northeast club announced Saturday that Karanka did not take training that day and wouldn't be in charge at Charlton on Sunday.

Karanka appeared to be on the way out but Middlesbrough announced Monday that he "will be resuming first- team duties with the club with immediate effect."

Middlesbrough is second in the League Championship as it chases promotion to the Premier League.
