Indiana county looks to sell items bought by embezzler

SPENCER, Ind. (AP) - Officials from a western Indiana county are looking to sell items improperly bought by a former county auditor convicted of embezzling $340,000.

The Owen County attorney says state police are turning over some of the hundreds of items seized from former Auditor Angie Lawson's home now that she's serving a 20-month federal prison sentence.

Attorney Richard Lorenz tells The (Bloomington) Herald-Times (http://bit.ly/1nJnCZl ) the county can use computers and some other things which Lawson bought, while others could be auctioned.

Authorities say Lawson embezzled the county money between 2010 and 2014, buying jewelry, liquor, children's toys and other items.

Lorenz says county workers are retrieving Lawson's purchases from a state police storage site, but doesn't think selling them will put much of a dent in what she owes the county.
