Construction begins Tuesday on $30 million Prospect Heights assisted living community
Construction is set to begin Tuesday on a $30 million assisted living and memory care facility near the intersection of Elmhurst and Palatine roads in Prospect Heights.
The 101-unit development, to be called Greenbrier of Prospect Heights, is projected to be complete in one year. Vacant houses on the 5-acre site were cleared over the past few months to make way for the project.
Developer Greenbrier Senior Living plans a three-story, 69-unit assisted living building and a one-story, 32-unit building for memory care.
The memory care building will include intense staff supervision and an enclosed courtyard for residents to use, according to the developer. Its circular walkways, indoor and outdoor gardens, and secure common areas in the building are intended to help slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease.
Assisted living units will feature either one or two bedrooms with laundry appliances and an eat-in kitchen. Community amenities include indoor and outdoor dining, an outdoor area with a fireplace and grill, a chapel and a salon and spa.
Prospect Heights Mayor Nick Helmer in August said the area needs more facilities like Greenbrier.
"It can serve not just people who live here now, but people that have their roots near Prospect Heights who want to stay in the area," Helmer said.
Pathway Senior Living will manage both facilities. Helmer, Prospect Heights Fire Chief Donald Gould and representatives from Greenbrier and Pathway are expected to attend Tuesday's groundbreaking.
