Judge sets bond for suspended Illnois point guard

URBANA, Ill. (AP) - A judge has set bond at $2,000 for Illinois suspended point guard Jaylon Tate, who was arrested for striking his girlfriend in the face.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/1po2olp ) that Tate appeared at the Champaign County Courthouse on Sunday morning before Judge Tom Difanis. Urbana attorney Tom Bruno is representing Tate and says his client is innocent.

The 21-year-old junior from Chicago was arrested Saturday on a domestic battery charge. Illinois suspended him from the team after the arrest.

Tate is the third Illinois player to face charges since August. His arrest came a week after the school's new athletic director issued a vote of confidence for coach John Groce but fired football coach Bill Cubit.
