Cruz, Clinton, Sanders return to Chicago area today
A trio of presidential candidates will make one more push through the Chicago area on Monday ahead of Tuesday's important primary election.
Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas will host an event in Glen Ellyn, and Democrats Hillary Clinton and U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont are scheduled to make appearances in Chicago.
After appearing in Rolling Meadows Friday, Cruz is returning to the suburbs for a free campaign event.
“Rally with Ted Cruz” will be held from 12:30 p.m. to 2 p.m. at Abbington Banquets, 3 South 002 Route 53 in Glen Ellyn. Doors open at 11:30 a.m.
The event will be Cruz's second stop of the day in Illinois. The first is at 9 a.m. in Rockford and will include state Sen. Tim Bivins, a Dixon Republican, as a special guest. Cruz is expected to hold events later Monday in Peoria, Decatur and Springfield.
Clinton plans to host a free “New Bargain” event at Plumbers JAC Local Union 130 UA, 1340 W. Washington Blvd., in Chicago. There, Clinton will discuss “breaking down barriers of economic opportunity,” according to her campaign. Doors open at 8:45 a.m., and the event is expected to begin at 10:30 a.m.
Clinton stopped in Vernon Hills Thursday, where she discussed jobs and infrastructure improvements.
Sanders, who rallied supporters in Summit on Friday, is holding another event Monday night in Chicago.
The “A Future to Believe in” rally will be held at the Auditorium Theater of Roosevelt University, 50 E. Congress Parkway. Doors will open at 8:30 p.m. and the program is scheduled to begin at 10:30 p.m.
Every presidential candidate has hosted events in Illinois except Republican U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, who's been concentrating on his home state's primary, also on Tuesday.
