Karanka's future in doubt at 2nd-tier Middlesbrough

MIDDLESBROUGH, England (AP) - Aitor Karanka's future at second-tier English club Middlesbrough is in doubt after he was removed from first-team duties ahead of the team's match this weekend.

Karanka, who is in his first managerial job abroad after being the assistant to Jose Mourinho at Real Madrid, is reported to have left Middlesbrough's training ground unexpectedly on Friday following a row.

Middlesbrough released a statement saying Karanka didn't take training on Saturday and that his assistant, Steve Agnew, will take charge for the match against Charlton on Sunday. Middlesbrough is second in the league as it chases promotion to the Premier League.

The statement says: "We appreciate supporters will want to know further details but at this time the club cannot make any further comment."
