Aurora man dies after being hit by pickup
A 67-year-old Aurora man who was struck by a pickup truck Friday night as he crossed a street on Aurora's east side has died, authorities said Saturday.
Aurora police said George Edwards, of the 1500 block of North Farnsworth Avenue, died of his injuries at Presence Mercy Medical Center in Aurora.
The crash occurred about 6:15 p.m. when Edwards was crossing Farnsworth at the intersection of Marshall Boulevard, police said. Edwards was hit by a southbound 1996 Chevrolet pickup driven by Guadalupe Luna, 75, of the 200 block of Beach Street, Aurora.
On Saturday, authorities said the preliminary investigation found that Edwards was walking westbound when he was hit by Luna. There were no outward signs of alcohol or drug use, they said.
Luna was ticketed for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk, police said.
An autopsy on Edwards is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday at the Kane County Coroner's Office in Geneva.
Police said the area along Farnsworth where the crash occurred has a posted speed limit of 35 mph. The road was closed for about five hours while officers from the Aurora Police Traffic Unit investigated. Volunteers from the Aurora Emergency Management Agency provided assistance at the scene.
