LOS ANGELES (AP) - The Latest on the death of Keith Emerson (all times local):

7:15 p.m.

Authorities say Keith Emerson, co-founder of the seminal progressive rock group Emerson, Lake and Palmer, may have killed himself.

Emerson was 71 when his longtime girlfriend found him at their Santa Monica, California, condominium Friday morning.

Police Sgt. Erika Aklufi says he had an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Emerson, a talented keyboardist and composer, teamed up with Greg Lake and Carl Palmer in the 1970s to produce a series of platinum-selling albums. Their intricate, moody works combined synthesizers, orchestral and jazz stylings. One famous piece, "Karn Evil 9," took up nearly 30 minutes on vinyl.

In a statement, Palmer calls Emerson a "gentle soul" with unmatched talent who was a musical pioneer.
