Former Argentina defender Roberto Perfumo dies at 73
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) - Roberto Perfumo, a former Argentina defender who played in two World Cups, has died after falling at a restaurant. He was 73.
The Argentine soccer federation said Perfumo died Thursday.
Perfumo played for Racing Club and River Plate, as well as Brazilian club Cruzeiro. He was a starter in two World Cups, playing for Argentina at the 1966 tournament in England and in 1974 in Germany.
In January, Perfumo was chosen by the country's soccer federation as one of the best ever to wear the Argentina shirt.
With Racing, Perfumo won the 1967 Copa Libertadores title and the Intercontinental Cup. He retired in 1978 and later worked as a coach and television commentator.
River Plate players observed a minute's silence and wore black armbands on Thursday in their Copa Libertadores match against Sao Paulo.
