Teens learn to create a smartphone projector at the Bartlett Library

At the Bartlett Library, teens were able to learn how to create their own photo projector for a smartphone in the hands-on program Create a Smartphone Projector on March 10.

Nowadays, smartphone projectors can get a little pricey, so Youth & Teen Services Librarian Lisa Barefield provided materials for teens to make a low-budget projector.

All that was needed was a shoebox, paperclip, magnifying glass, X-Acto knife (or similar), duct tape and a smartphone.

Bryan Ruiz, 14, was in attendance.

"I came to the program because I saw a poster for it in the [Bartlett Library]," Ruiz said. "It looked like a lot of fun; I like making stuff."

Ruiz made his projector, and it was successfully able to show the image on the phone against the wall. He enjoyed his experience with the program.

"My old Library didn't have any programs. It was very boring," Ruiz said. "I like this Library a lot since they have a lot of my favorite books, and I get to do fun activities."

The next teen program is the Allegiant Party on Wednesday, March 16 at 7 p.m. Teens can celebrate the release of the third movie in the Divergent Series at the Bartlett Library with food, trivia and prizes! They can register or just stop by. Attendees should be between grades 7 and 12.
