Experience makes Rotering choice in 10th Dist.
Not long ago, I read that the Supreme Court decided not to hear the case involving Highland Park's assault weapons ban, thus upholding the lower court's decision to allow it. I also read that the mayor of Highland Park, Nancy Rotering, was running for Congress.
I decided to find out more about her since she had been able to accomplish something under her leadership not accomplished anywhere else.
I learned that Nancy was the first woman mayor of Highland Park. She balanced five budgets, held ComEd accountable for blackouts and fortified the employee pension plan while maintaining the city's top credit rating, saving the city millions of dollars.
Nancy's four boys all went to public schools and she is dedicated to ensuring all our children have the best public education available. She also is committed to making a college education accessible for all without huge debts afterward.
Health care is an issue that affects everyone, and Nancy has unique experience in administering health care plans and has worked as a health care attorney. With a diabetic son, she knows the importance of having coverage that is both comprehensive and affordable for everyone.
What I learned most is that Nancy is a progressive leader who gets things done, and what Washington needs right now is less talk and more action.
