Hoffman Estates drum corps to join London New Year's parade

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. (AP) - The Royal Airs Drum and Bugle Corps from Hoffman Estates will be featured in London's 2017 New Year's Day Parade.

Officials say Lord Mayor Duncan Sans of Westminster - great-grandson of the late British Prime Minister Winston Churchill - will hand-deliver the group's invitation Marc 21.

Jennifer Djordjevic is director of operations and outreach for the Hoffman Estates mayor's office. She tells the (Arlington Heights) Daily Herald (http://bit.ly/1pA7Ott ) that the Royal Airs are the only surviving drum and bugle corps in Illinois that accepts people of all ages.

The group's oldest member is 80, the youngest, 12.

The Royal Airs' performances are based on drum corps traditions. But the members prefer to be identified with community service, their recent accomplishments and future goals.
