Palatine Kicks Off 150th Birthday Celebration with Founders' Day Ceremony
The Village of Palatine will officially kick-off its Sesquicentennial Celebration with a Founders' Day Ceremony on its 150th birthday, Saturday, April 2, 2016. On this date in 1866, local leaders made the decision to incorporate the village.
The event will be held outdoors on the Palatine Historical Society grounds at 224 E. Palatine Road, just east of the Clayson House Museum. The ceremony will include opening remarks from Palatine Mayor Jim Schwantz on the village's rich legacy. Sue Gould, a lifetime Palatine resident and longtime Palatine Park District commissioner also will speak about the history of her family, who originally came to Palatine in 1892.
The official 'Palatine 150 Song' created by Palatine resident and composer David Reiser will be sung by the Community Allegro Chorus, and the Palatine 150 Time Capsule will be on display.
The Time Capsule was purchased and is being organized by the Palatine Lions Club, the oldest service organization in the village. Items from the Sesquicentennial Year celebration will be included in the capsule to communicate what Palatine is today, to future generations.
The Founders' Day Ceremony be held on Saturday, April 2, and will begin at 10 a.m. and will run until approximately 11 a.m. Light refreshments will be served inside the Clayson House Museum immediately following the ceremony.
