Lake Villa goes green with St. Patrick's Day parade

Lake Villa's Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade and Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner will be held Saturday, March 12.

The parade will begin at noon, stepping off from Palombi Middle School, 133 McKinley Ave., Lake Villa. The parade will proceed north on McKinley Avenue to Burnett Avenue; west to Sherwood Avenue; north to Grand Avenue; west to Cedar Avenue; and northeast to Railroad Avenue, where it will end by the Lake Villa VFW. The parade will be held rain or shine.

According to parade organizer Betty Burns, 57 entries have signed up, including a bagpiper and the Rainbow Caboose, which will carry donations for the Lake Villa Township Food Pantry.

Paradegoers are invited to bring donations of canned food or money, which will be collected along the route and used to fill the caboose. Jim Barnowski of Round Lake will join the parade as St. Patrick himself.

Following the parade, a corned beef and cabbage dinner will be served at the VFW, with entertainment beginning at 3 p.m. A hot dog plate will also be available. Admission to the meal is $8 for adults, $6 for seniors and $4 for children.
