Teens accused of St. Charles Park District vandalism sued for damages

Three teens accused of a vandalism spree at a St. Charles Park District office last December are being sued by the district's insurance carrier for nearly $18,000 in damages plus attorney fees.

The Park District Risk Management Association filed the litigation against Kyle Wandle, William Donlevy and Nicholas Zamecnik, who are free on bail and face felony burglary and criminal damage to property charges.

They are accused of breaking windows, computers and office supplies, and damaging other equipment Dec. 19, 2015, at offices at the Otter Cove Water Park, 3615 Campton Hills Road, and at James O. Breen Park, 3625 Campton Hills Road, and the risk management association wants to be reimbursed for paying out an insurance claim to the park district. "Defendants caused extensive damage to the subject premises," stated part of the complaint filed in Kane County that seeks $17,478.92.

According to a police affidavit used to secure a search warrant to extract information from the teens' phones, officers found a swastika carved into an office wall, along with the word "Jew" carved below it. The three also gave video statements to police in which they described their involvement in the destruction as well as other vandalism events, according to the affidavit.

Wandle, 19, of St. Charles, is due in court April 13. Donlevy, 18, of St. Charles, and Zamecnik, 18, of Elburn, are due in court April 22. If convicted of the most severe charge, each faces a sentence ranging from probation to up to seven years in prison.
