Local Boy Scout Council to Honor its Highest Achieving Youth Members
On March 19, Pathway to Adventure Council will recognize 470 local youth who earned the highest possible rank in their Scouting program last year.
Historically, this Youth Recognition Dinner has been dedicated exclusively to honoring those who attained Eagle Scout: the highest rank in Boy Scouts. This year and beyond, however, the dinner will also recognize the young men and women who achieved the highest rank in Scouting's co-ed Venturing and Sea Scout programs.
These young people exhibited dedication to improving themselves and their communities through Scouting and it's our privilege to honor them in a manner befitting their hard work.
The dinner will pay special tribute to Daniel Strebar of Naperville, and K'Von Jackson of Chicago who received the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Service Project of the Year Award.
Daniel completed a total restoration of the neglected and overgrown Orphan's Cemetery at Benet Academy and K'Von partnered with local businesses and institutions to provide food to 250 children in need at Chicago's St. Malacy School.
The Youth Recognition Dinner will be held on Saturday, March 19th from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Waterford Banquets - 933 S. Riverside Dr. Elmhurst, IL 60126. WBBM news reporter and Eagle Scout Bernie Tafoya will lead the ceremony and best-selling author, Eagle Scout and avid outdoorsman Alvin Townley will deliver the keynote speech. The event is sponsored by Meijer and AMITA Health.
The program will also recognize recipients of the prestigious Outstanding Eagle Scout Award, which is given to men who earned the rank of Eagle and have since demonstrated exceptional achievement at the local, state, or regional level.
The 2015 Outstanding Eagle Scout Award recipients are as follows: John Beebe Sr., retired project and construction management professional; Tom Bezouska, retired project manager at James McHugh Construction; Tony Bezouska, retired vice president at Woodwork Corp.; Matt Bogusz, mayor of Des Plaines; Mike Duffee, partner at Thompson Coburn LLP; Don Harris, program/project Manager at Sargent & Lundy; Don Hough, associate at Grant Thornton LLP; Bob Fioretti, 2nd Ward Alderman for Chicago, Norm McFarland, systems architect at Siemens Energy, Inc.; and Bob Melko, president of Bishop Plumbing and chairman of the Plumbing Council of Chicagoland.
