Northeastern Indiana molesting suspect dies in custody

AUBURN, Ind. (AP) - Authorities in northeastern Indiana are investigating the death of a child molesting suspect who was due to face trial later this month.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department says 48-year-old Charles W. Croft died in a Fort Wayne hospital after suffering an apparent heart attack Saturday.

The sheriff's department says jail staff immediately administered CPR after Croft was stricken.

Croft has been an inmate at the jail since May 7. He was scheduled to go on trial March 29 on two child molestation charges.

An autopsy was scheduled to be performed Sunday. A message seeking comment was left at the Allen County Coroner's Office.
