Oakland G Max Hooper's father Chip has died of cancer

ROCHESTER, Mich. (AP) - Chip Hooper, the father of Oakland University guard Max Hooper, has died. He was 53.

The school says Hooper died Saturday of cancer. He received national attention when he was able to attend his son's final regular-season game on Feb. 26 on an emotional night at the suburban Detroit school.

Oakland coach Greg Kampe said in a statement Sunday that Max Hooper was traveling to California to spend a day with his family. The Golden Grizzlies play in the Horizon League tournament semifinals Monday night in Detroit.

Max Hooper said Friday the regular-season finale was an "indescribable moment" and something he and his family won't forget any time soon.
