People brave icy plunge in Lake Zurich to raise money to fight cancer

American Cancer Society Relay For Life supporters plunged into icy waters Saturday during the Purple Plunge at Breezewald Beach in Lake Zurich.

The plunge participants collected pledges and formed teams, wearing costumes and getting cheered on by supporters from the beach.

Funds raised from the annual event supports the Lake Zurich/Wauconda/Island Lake Relay For Life event. The American Cancer Society supports research to find a cancer cure and also provides services for cancer patients and their caregivers.
