Trinity tops Whitney Young third place in Class 4A

Trinity 63, Whitney Young 46: Senior Annie McKenna scored 25 points and senior Kaitlin Aylward added 20 with 6 rebounds as No. 5 Trinity upended No. 2 Young in the Class 4A third-place game during the girls basketball state tournament finals Saturday at Redbird Arena in Normal.

Alisa Fallon added 10 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists for the Blazers (30-6), who won their first state trophy in girls basketball.

Young, a three time state champion under head coach and Larkin graduate Corry Irvin, got 20 points and 8 rebounds from senior Isabelle Springola and 18 points from Ohio State recruit Kiara Lewis.

Young (27-7) earned its 10th state trophy, but it's just the second time the Dolphins have finished fourth.
