Bisping helps Morton repeat as 3A champs

NORMAL - Junior Brandi Bisping scored 19 points and had 8 rebounds to lead top-ranked Morton to its second straight Class 3A girls state basketball championship Saturday, a 58-41 win over Chicago North Lawndale at Redbird Arena.

Bisping made 8 of 9 free throws in the win after she made 19 of 21 in the Potters' semifinal win on Friday. As a team Morton (33-3) was 27 of 33 from the line on Saturday and 55-for-68 for the tournament.

Freshman Tenley Dowell added 11 points for Morton, which became the first school to claim back-to-back 3A titles since Montini in 2011 and 2012.

Kia Brooks led North Lawndale (23-12) with 13 points and 9 rebounds while DeAsa Almon added 13 points.

Highland 62, Morgan Park 51: In the Class 3A third-place game, Alex LaPorta had 20 points and 11 rebounds as No. 6 Highland (31-5) earned the school's first state trophy in girls basketball. Madison Wellen added 17 points for the Bulldogs. Gabriella Cooper led No. 2 Morgan Park (30-5) with 18 points.
