Louisiana-Lafayette loses 4 defensive players

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - Four familiar faces on the defensive side of the Louisiana-Lafayette football team are gone for good.

The Advertiser reports (http://bit.ly/1UFWVCf ) outside linebacker/defensive end Kevin Fouquier and defensive linemen Blain Winston, Jacoby Briscoe and Sherard Johnson are no longer with the team.

Coach Mark Hudspeth said Friday that Fouquier had a job opportunity he couldn't pass up and decided not to return for his fifth and final season. He says Briscoe will have shoulder surgery that won't allow him to play this year.

Winston and Johnson, meanwhile, are on track to graduate in May. Hudspeth wished both players well.

Hudspeth also said senior Jalen Nixon, who is moving from quarterback to running back, will miss the start of spring drills following recent foot surgery.
