Hoffman Estates man charged with sexually abusing teen
Prosecutors say a 22-year-old Hoffman Estates man sexually abused a teenager about three years ago at a time when she was intoxicated and could not consent.
Yovani Hernandez-Rojas, of the 200 block of Maricopa Lane, was ordered held on $150,000 bail Friday on charges of criminal sexual abuse, which is punishable by up to 15 years in prison.
The woman was about 18 on March 9, 2013, when she and Hernandez-Rojas attended the same party, said Cook County Assistant State's Attorney David Shin.
The woman, who knew Hernandez-Rojas through mutual acquaintances, told police she consumed alcohol, became intoxicated and fell asleep. She awoke the next morning in pain and went to the emergency room, where physicians detected evidence consistent with sexual intercourse, Shin said.
Evidence taken from the woman at the hospital matched Hernandez-Rojas' DNA, Shin said. Hernandez-Rojas returns to court March 29.
