Attorney: Child molest convict vows to support daughter

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The attorney for an Indianapolis man sentenced to 12 years on probation for molesting his daughter says his client has promised to devote his life to financially support the girl since he has avoided prison.

The man's estranged wife wrote a letter asking the court not to send him to prison in hopes he could help financially support their children, and attorney John Campbell says the man "absolutely" plans to do so.

Marion Superior Court Magistrate Steven Rubick sentenced the man this week after he pleaded guilty to felony child molesting. The Indianapolis Star reports (http://indy.st/1LF7zqQ ) Rubick also required the 41-year-old man to register as a sex offender and continue treatment at a counseling center.

A prosecutor says she asked for a nine-year prison sentence but understands the mother's wishes.
