Man charged in Aurora restaurant burglary, suspected in others

A 44-year-old man has been charged with a Feb. 13 burglary at a west-side Aurora restaurant and is a suspect in several other break-ins, police said Thursday.

Christopher M. Sullivan, of the 1300 block for Hinckley Street, Aurora, faces felony charges related to the break-in and burglary at La Cabana Restaurant, 835 S. River St., according to police and Kane County court records.

Sullivan has been held at the Kane County jail since his Feb. 20 arrest on $125,000 bail, meaning he must post $12,500 to be released while the case is pending.

According to Aurora police, Sullivan and an accomplice smashed through the glass front door and stole electronics, liquor and cash valued at about $1,145.

The accomplice in the La Cabana burglary was described as a 5-foot-8 white man, about 170 pounds, wearing a light gray hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, gloves, and a striped baseball cap, police said.

Police met Sullivan on Feb. 18 on an unrelated call on the 600 block of Wilder Street, and during a conversation with a patrol officer, Sullivan made statements about several business burglaries in the city, authorities said. Police interviewed him, began an investigation and worked with prosecutors to secure the charges in the La Cabana incident, authorities said.

The investigation also established Sullivan as a suspect in other burglaries, and police say they expect additional charges in coming weeks.

If convicted of burglary, Sullivan faces anywhere from probation to seven years in prison. He is next due in court on March 10.
