Texas GOP revolts over 'embarrassment' winning county chair

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - The newly elected leader of the Republican Party in the Texas county that includes the state Capitol has a history of vulgar and homophobic slurs. He also co-authored a book about Hillary Clinton with one of Donald Trump's former presidential campaign advisers.

Robert Morrow said Wednesday he won't relinquish his nomination as Travis County's Republican chairman, using profanity as he challenged party leaders who fear his victory could hurt the GOP nationally.

Morrow, who says his "true expertise" is his belief the CIA killed President John F. Kennedy, says he voted for Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in the GOP presidential primary on Tuesday.

Austin-based GOP strategist Matt Mackowiak says Morrow is an embarrassment and is trying to prevent him from taking office.

The book about Clinton was published last fall.
