Stoker joins Louisiana-Monroe football coaching staff

MONROE, La. (AP) - The University of Louisiana at Monroe has added Scott Stoker to its football staff.

Coach Matt Viator, in Tuesday's news release announcing Stoker's hiring, said Stoker will serve as the program's linebackers coach.

Prior to joining Louisiana-Monroe, Stoker spent the previous three seasons as the defensive coordinator at UTEP. He also coached the team's linebackers.

Stoker made the move to UTEP from Sam Houston State, where he was the defensive coordinator from 2009-12. The Bearkats captured Southland Conference titles with back-to-back berths in the FCS championship game in 2011 and 2012.

Stoker was also the head coach at his alma mater, Northwestern State, from 2002-08. He compiled a 43-38 record and led the Demons to the 2004 Southland Conference co-championship and two NCAA Division I playoff appearances.
