Boxer needs some coaching on biblical foundations

Based on what little I've read about Manny Pacquiao over the years, he has been a great champion. It's too bad he has taken the low road with his recent statements on homosexuality, and he certainly doesn't understand his faith.

Leviticus also says, "If a man commits adultery with another man's wife, both the adulterer and the adulteress are to be put to death." Oops, I guess he forgot about 20:12, but many adulterers, which Manny Pacquiano is, do.

It also says that if two people marry and one of them is a divorcee, they are both adulterers. Bummer. That's about 50 percent of America.

Hold it. It gets worse.

Jesus says if a person lusts after another person who is not their spouse, in God's eyes, they have committed adultery. Make that 100 percent.

But that is the primary point of Jesus and Christianity. Jesus is the promised Messiah to all sinners everywhere - Democrat and Republican, straight and gay, black and white, Jew and gentile, and also liar, petty thief, gossip, luster, cheater, etc, etc. Jesus paid the price for the rest of us with His execution then came back to life to prove He had the power to forgive and could be trusted.

Christianity is accepting that forgiveness, and sharing it with others. The primary purpose of the law, given in Leviticus and repeated in Deuteronomy, was to show all people everywhere that equality with God and the acceptance by God through righteous living was impossible for humans because none of us are righteous.

We all need a savior. Perhaps a better response from the LGBT community to Manny Pacquiao would have been, "based on Leviticus 20:12, you Manny, a confessed adulterer, should be put to death too. But we love you anyway."

God bless.
