Senate approves police video bill
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana law enforcement would be forced to publicly release body-camera video if the recordings might show officers using excessive force or violating someone's civil rights under a measure approved by the state Senate.
The measure by Republican Hartford City Rep. Kevin Mahan was approved on a 49-1 vote Tuesday.
It now goes back to the House, which earlier approved a different version of the bill, to sign off on the Senate's changes.
Under the measure, law enforcement agencies seeking to withhold video would have to prove it might harm someone or influence a trial. Police would also not be able to withhold video if a victim alleges excessive use of force or civil rights violations.
