Former Cologne star Hannes Loehr is dead at 73
COLOGNE, Germany (AP) - Cologne says its former star forward Hannes Loehr died Monday. He was 73.
The club did not give the cause of death, but Loehr had a stroke one year ago.
Loehr played 20 matches for Germany and was a member of the 1970 World Cup team in Mexico. As coach, he led Germany's Olympic team to a bronze medal at the 1988 Games in Seoul.
With 166 goals in 381 Bundesliga matches for Cologne, he is the club's top scorer of all time. Loehr won the Bundesliga title with Cologne in 1978 and was the league's top scorer in 1968 with 27 goals
