Thank you, authors, for reminder we all count

On Tuesday, Feb. 9, the Suburban Quiz informed readers that schools in Wheeling Township District 21 are named for writers. A best-selling writer was quoted in another article that day but without attribution.

In the article covering responses in U-46 to Jeanette Ward's Facebook post for Black History Month, school board member Traci O'Neal Ellis was quoted as saying "either everybody counts or nobody counts." It's a good sentiment for the situation.

That line is the mantra of writer Michael Connelly's fictional detective, Harry Bosch, and figures prominently in many of the 20-plus Bosch novels. (In one, the line is co-opted by a politician into a campaign slogan, much to Harry's ire.)

So, thank you, Michael Connelly for reminding us that each individual counts.
