Press protecting do-nothing lawmakers

Bravo to Mary L. Vieregg of Wheaton for her well written letter to the fencepost entitled "Will this be elected state officials' legacy?" To date there has been little or no press coverage regarding the direct harm caused by the lack of an Illinois state budget.

Does the press even care that our state university employees are experiencing layoffs and forced unpaid furloughs as a direct result of a lack of a state budget?

Our elected Illinois officials obviously don't care either.

Perhaps there is a connection between the politicians' lack of leadership and a press that takes the easy way out by protecting those officials.

This lack of coverage results in no explanation of the negative (although truthful) effects of the politicians inaction.

We the people of Illinois are suffering at the stubborn, greedy hands of those we the people elected to office. Our elected officials need to quickly move forward with a budget, show some leadership, and stop holding the people of Illinois hostage.
