Small plane lands in median of I-65 in southern Indiana

UNIONTOWN, Ind. (AP) - Indiana State Police and the federal aviation agency are investigating the emergency landing of a small plane in the median of Interstate 65 in southern Indiana.

State police spokesman Sgt. Stephen Wheeles says no one was injured in the incident Saturday.

Police report that the 1967 Beechcraft Bonanza had 44-year-old Aaron Wright, his wife and 13-year-old son on board. They were flying from Carmel, Indiana, to Louisville, Kentucky, when the plane began experiencing mechanical difficulty. Wright attempted to turn back to a nearby airport but landed on the southbound lanes of the Interstate. The plane was damaged.

It happened around 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Jackson County, near the unincorporated community of Uniontown.

Traffic was continuing to move in both directions as crews examined the aircraft in the median.
