Schaumburg teen faces gun, drug charges

A Schaumburg teen currently on probation for misdemeanor gun possession was ordered held on a total bail of $65,000 Friday on new gun and marijuana charges.

Stephon Owens, 19, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. If convicted of the most serious felony, he faces up to seven years in prison.

Hoffman Estates police executed a search warrant for Owens about 2:30 p.m. Thursday at his home in the 2400 block of Creek Bend Road, said Cook County assistant state's attorney Alyssa Grissom.

She said police found 69 grams of marijuana; a .22 caliber, fully loaded handgun; a magazine with eight rounds; small plastic bags and other items in the room belonging to Owens.

At the time of his arrest, Owens admitted he did not have a valid FOID card for the firearm or the ammunition, Grissom said.

Owens next appears in court March 18.
