The Buckinghams to perform at Elk Grove Village's tree-lighting ceremony
The Buckinghams will help usher in the Christmas spirit at Elk Grove Village's tree-lighting ceremony in November, village officials said this week.
It'll mark the second year well-known Chicago-area musicians have performed at the annual ceremony, following the appearance of American Idol winner Lee DeWyze, a Mount Prospect native, last year.
"We were looking for local talent to kind of keep it a community feel," said Mayor Craig Johnson.
The Buckinghams got their start in Chicago in 1966, and quickly grew to national prominence with hits like "Kind Of A Drag," "Don't You Care" and "Susan."
They'll likely play those popular songs, but village officials chose the group because they've previously performed Christmas shows and released a Christmas album.
The Buckinghams take the stage outside the village municipal complex at 4:30 p.m. Nov. 25, followed by the tree lighting at 5:30 p.m.
Johnson said the performers' fees are being covered under the $500,000 budgeted for the village's 8th annual Mid-Summer Classics Concert Series in July.
