Mundelein woman accused in fatal crash

A 23-year-old Mundelein woman remained in the Lake County jail Thursday on charges involving a fatal crash last March in Libertyville.

Police on Tuesday announced Amanda Auld, of the 300 block of Balmoral Drive, was charged with two counts of aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol that resulted in death involving an accident on March 7, 2015, at Harris and Peterson roads.

According to police, Auld was the driver of a Volkswagen Beetle involved in a crash with a semi truck. A front-seat passenger in Auld's car, 22-year-old Steven Daskauskas was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said the rear section of the semi was struck by a car heading east on Peterson as it was turning left.

Libertyville police said a delay in witness statements contributed to the time it took to bring charges.

Auld was taken into custody at the Antioch police department without incident after Libertyville police were notified she was there on an unrelated matter. She was held on $500,000 and would have to post $50,000 or 10 percent to be released. A bond hearing is scheduled for Friday.
