Harvest Christian's Castro named AP All-State again
For the second-straight year, Harvest Christian guard Paulina Castro has earned Class 1A first team All-State recognition from The Associated Press.
The AP All-State teams are voted on by a statewide panel of sports writers and broadcasters and compiled by John Radtke of the Daily Herald.
Castro, a 5-foot-6 senior who is signed with Northern Illinois, averaged 19.3 points per game this season for the 23-8 sectional finalist Lions. She also averaged 4.2 steals per game, 4.3 rebounds, 3.2 assists and made 103 3-pointers while shooting 41 percent from beyond the arc.
Also named the Northeastern Athletic Conference MVP for the second-straight year Castro, who transferred to Harvest from Montini after her sophomore year, scored 1,432 career points.
Joining Castro on the first team were Hardin Calhoun junior Grace Baalman, Annawan senior Morgan VanHyfte, Danville Schlarman sophomore Arieal Scott and Schlarman freshman Anaya Peoples.
Westminster Christian senior Maddie Versluys earned honorable mention in Class 1A.
