MHS staff to present talent show for charity

The staff of Mundelein High School has rallied around the needs of one of their own to present a staff talent show at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 3, in the MHS Auditorium. Admission is $2; additional donations will be accepted at the door. Mundelein High School is at 1350 W Hawley St., Mundelein.
All of the proceeds will go directly to #BakerBrave, a fund to support the family of an MHS staff member who has incurred very costly medical expenses.
The show will include a number of varied acts and staff members from almost every department in the high school.
Scheduled acts are a comedy sketch to include business education instructor Larry Calhoun, wellness instructors Justin Hart and Brett Wilhelm, social studies instructor Patrick Gaughan, English/Avid instructor Ernie Billittier and athletic trainer Kate Janoyev; Calhoun singing a country song as "Big Tex;" English instructor Laura Garcia playing the harp; English instructional aid Dan Warren singing and playing guitar; special education instructional aid Lourdes Chapa doing a Tae Kwan Do demonstration with her daughter, Hanna; math instructor Jeff Harding singing as the "Golden Pipes;" English instructors Jennifer Franco and Laura Garcia offering a poem and a song; and Business Education instructor John Stowers singing and playing the banjo.
Two larger groups will also entertain the audience. The #Baker Brave Band, a pep band comprising vocal music instructor Stevee Bellas on keyboard, physics instructor Matt Farmer on trumpet, world languages instructor Samantha Fehrman on flute, special education instructor Kate Gizella on clarinet, special education instructor Leah Kaplan on baritone saxophone, math department chair Randy Lerner on trumpet, school psychologist Krysta Penuel on alto saxophone, social studies instructor Dean Petros on clarinet, long-term substitute teacher Tony Skaronea on guitar, and math instructor Catherine White on flute.
Joining the group will be students Henry Carpender on trombone, Finjn Gleber on drums, Jacob Horvat on bass trombone, Alex Heraty on mellophone, Katie Lambert on trombone and Kenny Stepney on clarinet.
The finale act, The Dancing Zorbas, will be a Greek dance. The dancers include English instructor Alexander Kapotas; vocal music directors Cory Thompson and Stevee Bellas; math instructor Jeff Harding; reading specialist Melissa Sethna; technology trainer Kathryn Serby; special education instructor Laura Giese; special education instructor Kate Gizella; English instructional aid Sara Sinclair; academic literacy instructor Carsyn Rodriguez; Superintendent Kevin Myers; and special education instructors Rob Bever, Martin Panzanin, Heather Ryan, Morgan Spitz and Kate Gizella.
Math Department Chair Randy Lerner will serve as master of ceremonies for the event.
"This will be a night to remember because of all the diverse, powerful acts," participant Kathryn Serby said. "And, most importantly, all of the money raised will help support the Baker family in their time of need."
