Chesapeake Energy Corp., up 50 cents to $2.69

The oil and gas company reported a loss that was narrower than investors were expecting and said it was selling off assets to pay down debt.

Target Corp., up $2.95 to $76.94

The Minneapolis-based retailer raised its outlook and said a key measure of sales rose, as did customer traffic.

Extra Space Storage Inc., down $3.73 to $82.17

The self-storage company reported results that fell short of analysts' forecasts.

Dycom Industries Inc., down $2.82 to $56.77

The provider of contracting services reported earnings that didn't meet analysts' estimates.

Transocean Ltd., down 34 cents to $8.20

The rig operator received notice of early termination of a drilling contract.

Bank of America Corp., down 3 cents to $12.13

Financial stocks declined broadly as traders worried about the loans banks have made to struggling energy companies.

DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc., up $4.57 to $25.63

The entertainment company reported earnings and revenue that came in well ahead of what analysts predicted.

Advisory Board Co., down $9.79 to $26.50

The health care and education-focused software company forecast annual revenue that was far below what analysts were expecting.
