Meet the candidates at League's forums in St. Charles
The League of Women Voters of Central Kane County will conduct candidate forums at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 1, and Thursday, March 3, at the Kane County Branch Court building at 530 Randall Road in St. Charles. For the Tuesday program, invited candidates are Kane County Auditor, Coroner, Board Chair, and Board Districts 10 and 18. For the Thursday event, they invited candidates in the U.S. Congressional races in District 6 and District 14.
A meet and greet will be held for 45 minutes before each of the forums this spring, starting at 6 p.m.
The forums are designed to give contested candidates an opportunity to present their views directly to the voters in an open and unbiased setting. Not all candidates are able to participate.
In a contested race when one or more of the parties do not attend, the remaining candidate does not have a chance to speak although candidates may submit a 2-minute statement that will be read at the forum, by the candidate or the moderator.
The meet and greet offers an opportunity to talk with the public. All candidates may join the meet and greet and hand out literature.
All candidates will be given 2 minutes to make an opening statement, after which questions will be accepted from the audience and read by the moderator. When the final question has been asked, 1 minute closing statements from each candidate will conclude the program.
Stand-ins for absent candidates will not be permitted to speak but copies of brief written statements may be placed on the table that will be allowed for campaign literature. League of Women Voters rules do not allow literature or other campaign materials to be handed out at a League of Women Voters forum.
The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan, issue oriented organization which never endorses candidates. As part of its Voter Education mission, they sponsor forums prior to every election so that candidates seeking to serve to citizens of our communities may present their views directly to voters in an open, unbiased setting.
