Attend Batavia Mothers' Club Foundation's open house

Mothers who are looking for a way to become involved in the community and meet other moms are invited to a new member open house for the Batavia Mothers' Club Foundation from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 28, at a member's home. To RSVP, email membership@bataviamothersclub.org.

The philanthropic organization is dedicated to helping children and families in Batavia and surrounding areas to succeed. The club began when a group of young mothers decided to form a book study group. Over time, the group developed a community and philanthropic focus, which led to 501(c)(3) status.

Throughout the year, members participate in community activities, including BatFest, Art in Your Eye, coat and food drives, and the Access Toy Drive, as well as the club's fundraisers - the Autumn Craft & Vendor Show in October, Charity Bunco in January and the Fox Trot 5K/10K in April.

Members are required to pay annual dues of $30, serve on a standing committee, participate in philanthropic and community relations activities, volunteer at fundraisers, and attend meetings at 7 p.m. the first Wednesday of every month, September through May, at the Batavia Public Library.

The foundation also is taking applications for its 2016 annual philanthropic disbursements at www.bataviamothersclub.org/philanthropy/ or by emailing philanthropic@bataviamothersclub.org and requesting an application.

Completed applications are due by March 15.

In 2015, it donated more than $50,000 to local charities and the Batavia public schools through its annual philanthropic disbursement program. Awards have ranged from hundreds to several thousand dollars, depending on the need and impact of the charitable organization on its mission of improving the lives of children and families in the Fox Valley area. Recipients will be announced at the end of May.
