McGehee agrees to minor league contract with Tigers
LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - Third baseman Casey McGehee has agreed to a minor league contract with the Detroit Tigers.
McGehee was in camp Tuesday. He hit .198 with two home runs and 20 RBIs last year for San Francisco and Miami.
McGehee is a career .259 hitter in 820 major league games since 2008. He hit 23 home runs in 2010 for Milwaukee, and he hit .287 for the Marlins in 2014, but he's had a hard time staying consistently productive at the plate.
Manager Brad Ausmus said the team could use a third baseman, not necessarily at the major league level, but maybe at Triple-A Toledo. Nick Castellanos is Detroit's starter at third.
