Rio 2016 scraps specific seat tickets in several venues
RIO DE JANEIRO (AP) - Organizers of the Rio de Janeiro Olympics have decided to scrap assigned seat tickets in certain sections at some sports and venues, including the main stadium.
Under the plan, spectators with general admission tickets will be able to sit where they like to watch sports including boxing, weight lifting, badminton, table tennis, BMX, field hockey, rowing, triathlon and archery.
It will also affect spectators with the cheapest category of tickets for the some sessions of track and field and soccer.
Organizers said in such cases, the ticket will be assigned to a block or sector of the stadium, rather than a specific seat or row.
Different ticket price categories will still apply at all venues.
