District 54 hosts Family Engineering Night as part of Schaumburg Parent University

Have you ever marveled at tall buildings, graceful bridges or massive boats? Perhaps you have wondered how things work, liked designing, drawing, making or creating?

District 54 students and their families had the opportunity to team up to discover how STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) makes all of these things possible during Schaumburg Parent University's Family Engineering Night on Feb. 22.

Using everyday materials, participants in this free annual event became a family of engineers who solved problems together through various challenges, built a tower and designed a dancing robot. Thanks to Jim Vreeland, District 54's director of math and science, and Ben Loduha, the district's STEM Instructional Coach, for leading the event.

Schaumburg Parent University was developed to involve more parents in the life of the school, to strengthen family relationships, and to improve parenting skills that will ultimately result in improved student success academically, socially and emotionally.
