Elgin police say online comments led to robbery, battery

A woman who Elgin police say was angered about comments posted on social media faces battery and robbery charges after punching a man in the face and stealing his phone, according to a news release.

Police responded to a fight in progress about 2:20 p.m. Sunday on the 100 block of Dawson Drive, the news release said. An 18-year-old man told police that while he was driving, another vehicle attempted several times to cut him off. He pulled over and was approached by a man and a woman.

The woman, Julieta Moncada, 20, of the 400 block of Prairie Street, Elgin, began yelling at him and then punched him in the face repeatedly, police said. When the victim dropped his phone, Moncada grabbed it and fled, police said.

Police later located her at her home. She was charged with feloney robbery and misdemanor battery. She was held for the Kane County bond call.
