Nobody was injured after a coach bus caught fire yesterday in Lake Forest, fire officials said. Approximately 40 passengers and the Megabus driver evacuated the double-decker bus when fire crews arrived to the scene about 12:15 p.m., according to a news release from Lake Forest Fire Department. Fire causes $150,000 in damage to Schaumburg duplex

A Schaumburg duplex unit was left uninhabitable yesterday after a fire caused $150,000 in damage, fire officials said. The fire started about 2 p.m. in the basement of a unit in a two-story townhouse on Old Kings Court, said Martin Sand, shift commander at the Schaumburg Fire Department. Full story.

Teachers union, Lake Villa school board pleased with new deal

The union representing teachers in Lake Villa Elementary District 41 expects a ratification vote on a new contract with the district within the next few weeks, a spokesman said yesterday. After a 17-hour bargaining session that began Friday afternoon, Lake Villa Federation of Teachers and District 41 board of education announced Saturday the two sides had reached tentative agreement on a four-year deal. Terms of the contract will be finalized following approval by both the teachers and the school board, according to the announcement. Full story.

Blackhawks lose 6-1 in Minnesota outdoor game

The Minnesota Wild celebrated the first outdoor game in franchise history with a 6-1 victory yesterday over the Blackhawks in front of a crowd of 50,426 at TCF Bank Stadium on the University of Minnesota campus. Hamlin wins Daytona 500, ends Gibbs' drought

With a Hail Mary move, Denny Hamlin ended Joe Gibbs' 23-year drought at the Daytona 500. Gibbs made it clear that he had no use for the victories his drivers collected in the exhibition races leading into yesterday's season-opener.
