Spike, Nickelodeon making 'Lip Sync Battle' for kids

NEW YORK - The unexpected television hit "Lip Sync Battle" has let adults channel their inner music star. Now kids will get the same chance.

The Spike network, which airs "Lip Sync Battle," is joining with Nickelodeon for a special "Lip Sync Battle Jr." show that will feature young people miming some of their favorite songs. The special will be broadcast on both networks later this year.

The special is effectively an on-air pilot, and if it is successful, the networks may turn it into a regular series.

"Lip Sync Battle" is the most-watched original series in Spike's history and, despite airing regularly at 10 p.m. Eastern on Thursday, has surprised network executives with its popularity as family viewing.
