Libertyville's own opera star Robert Orth to perform at benefit concert

Performing at a benefit concert and art auction at the Byron Colby Barn in Grayslake on Saturday, March 12, is Libertyville's own opera star Robert Orth. Orth has performed 134 roles in opera and musicals in scores of cities including London, Berlin, Rome, New York, San Francisco, Houston, Los Angeles, Seattle, Philadelphia, Chicago, Dallas, Miami, Portland, Washington, D.C., and Denver. He was named "Artist of the Year" by both New York City Opera and Seattle Opera. New York City Opera also gave him the Christopher Keene Award for new and unusual repertoire. He has appeared as soloist with the symphony orchestras of Chicago, Cleveland, Milwaukee, Seattle, Denver, Indianapolis, Phoenix, and Washington, D.C., in repertoire ranging from Brahms's Requiem to Broadway pops to his most repeated symphonic piece, Carmina Burana.

The benefit concert also features a Jazz Ensemble and an Eclectic Acoustic Folk-Rock Group. Proceeds from the $50 ticket price will go to organizations that support those in need in Lake County: A Safe Place, Career Resource Center, Erie Family Health, The Haven, Habitat for Humanity, Northern IL Food Bank, PADS, Waukegan 2 College, Youth & Family Counseling, and Feed My Starving Children.

There will be hors d'oeuvres and desserts, a cash bar, and an auction of artwork by local artisans. The event, "Music for Many," is at the Byron Colby Barn, 1561 Jones Point Rd, Grayslake, from 7:00 - 10:30 on Saturday night, March 12, 2016.
